San Francisco Women Artists is a non-profit organization dedicated to the furtherance of women in the visual fine arts. Since its inception in the late 1880's as a sketch club it has been in continuous operation. In 1924, then known as the Society of Women Artists, it evolved into today's San Francisco Women Artists.

Early 20th century artists included: Evelyn Almond Withrow, Alice Chittenden, Gertrude Partington Albright, Anne Bremer, Jane Berlandina Howard and Lucia Mathews. Mid-to-late 20th century members included: Claire Falkenstein, Emmy Lou Packard, Dorr Bothwell, Ruth Asawa and Beth van Hoesen.

For more than twenty years SFWA managed a gallery at 370 Hayes Street in San Francisco enabling our artists to exhibit in a monthly juried show. Due to changes in the economy, we closed the gallery at the end of 2001. We are most proud to now be in a new permanent gallery located at 3489 Sacramento Street (cross street is Laurel).

Whether you are Looking for Fine Art for your home or office, or, looking for an organization of artists who support each other, SFWA is the place for you. SFWA is more than an Art Gallery. It is an energized and active membership organization for artists with regular juried shows and it is a non-profit organization that collaborates with other non-profits groups to support artistic endeavors through collaborative shows and events.
