Alison Buck

Alison Buck is an artist who moves between visual arts, working with encaustic, mixed media and assemblage art. She has been an avid world traveler since the age of six, collecting found objects, ephemera, and even discarded materials from her journeys both abroad and at home. These objects, infused with culture, nature, and human connection, have become the foundation of her work, capturing what she has seen and learned. By working across various mediums, she can begin with an object that speaks to her and develop it into a piece that is not limited to one discipline or material, aiming to give the viewer a clear emotional response. She particularly loves making work that embodies freedom, connection, and a touch of sparkle. Alison has lived in the Inner Sunset of San Francisco for 33 years. She is the mother of a son, adopted from Guatemala as a baby, who is now an LGBTQIA+ college student. This experience has influenced her work to focus more deeply on themes of diversity and inclusion. Alongside her artistic career, she worked in social services for 25 years, serving the homeless population in behavioral health and housing. For her, art is not just something she creates at home. It is what she needs to live and stay healthy. Her work has been shown at Yerba Buena Gardens, Shangri La of Fair Oaks, Kings Gallery, and Far Out Gallery in San Francisco. She also teaches small group collage classes throughout the Bay Area.
