Judith Stark

Judith is a glass artist living in San Francisco. Her love of art glass started as a very young child when she was given tiny glass animals that had been flameworked with exquisite detail. Visiting Murano, Italy as a teenager cemented that love of the translucency and sheer beauty of formed glass. Her career took her in a different direction, into the computer world, where she developed a different love – for the science and technology behind how things worked. Over the years, Judith enrolled in hands on classes in the various glass forming disciplines, from hot (blown) glass, to stained (cold) glass, finally to kiln formed (warm) glass which captured her completely. Here, she discovered the sweet spot where technology and science merged with the beauty and artistry of kiln formed glass. Before long, Big Bertha was purchased, installed and rewired by Judith to accept its first load of fused glass. The science behind glasswork is as captivating as the end result. Since retiring, Judith has engrossed herself in her glass work and is constantly pushing herself to learn and challenge the interface of artistry and science. She considers herself a wide-eyed newbie.
