Michelle Bond was born and raised till the age of 17 in Manila Philippines. She immigrated to San Francisco in 1980. Growing up in a musically inclined family, her art work began at the early age of 7 in the 1970’s. Her early influences were works of Picasso, Kandinsky, Miro, and Dali. Her early musical and artistic background is defined in her llyrical, playful and colorful works, both in painting and printmaking. She writes poetry, plays music, and sketches during her free time.
She began painting at the age of 7 and continued all the way through college where she finished and graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree from San Francisco State University with an emphasis on Printmaking and Painting in 1996. She has 2 juried exhibitions during her college years.
After graduation, she started a landscape and garden business which took 20 years for her to establish. She also began in 2000 a Certificate Degree in Landscape Architecture form UC Berkeley which she finished in 2010. She has designed over 750 gardens ranging from 400 square ft roof top gardens to 3 acres in Montara, California.
Her gardens have been featured in blogs, websites and magazines in the last 5 years. Her garden business name is Thumbellina Gardens Inc.
Recently in the past 3 years, with a desire to paint, she joined an artist group, OBA, Ocean Beach Artists in the Outer Sunset in 2013. She started slowly and went back to painting to producing a new series of art paintings inspired by her landscape contracting work from 2007-2010.
These works are now currently on display at the FDR Brewery on San Bruno Avenue, San Francisco, California.
Today, she divides her time between designing and installing gardens and landscapes and her artwork in her studio in the Outer Sunset.
