Mira Waksman

Mira Nitza Waksman is a San Francisco–based Contemporary Abstract Expressionist painter. She moved to San Francisco in 1993 to attend the San Francisco Art Institute, where she received her BFA. For more than three decades, she has maintained an independent studio practice exploring memory, lived experience, and the emotional landscape through abstraction.

Abstraction is my language. It gives me the freedom to move beyond the literal and reveal what cannot easily be expressed in words. My paintings explore the traces that experience leaves within us, where memory becomes feeling and feeling becomes form. Color, gesture, rhythm, and movement are central to my visual language, functioning much as they do in music—through rhythm, pulse, harmony, and silence.
