Rachel Martin is an oil painter based in Oakland. She has a BFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and over 10 years experience doing freelance commissions and selling oil paintings. She specializes in vibrant, expressive, impasto landscapes of California. Her paintings focus on color and capturing the ephemeral way light plays across surfaces and physical space. She loves the raw physicality and immediacy of oil paint as a medium.
She has been awarded the Robert Preston Scholarship from Cypress Community College, and the Distinguished Scholar Grant and Support Grant from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
