Rose Roque was born in the Philippines in 1988; and she and her family were forced to emigrate from her home country to Los Angeles in 1999. She became a U.S. citizen more than a decade later. Though she earned a degree in Political Science with an International Affairs concentration from University of California in Riverside, her creative outlet blossomed in diverse modalities— poetry, culinary arts, real estate remodels, photography, and painting. Now a single mother, Rose juggles being a licensed real estate agent in Berkeley and Oakland while creating and selling acrylic abstract paintings with her daughter Alexa Bruckback, who is also an abstract painter in her own right, in their home studio in North Oakland. Rose’s artworks thus far are inspired by painful experiences, politics, meditation visions, travels and celestial bodies.
